GooseChase – A Library Scavenger Hunt Tool

Resource Review : Goosechase EDU

With the 2024 eclipse just around the corner I am looking to create a one time lesson that will wow the students. That’s where goosechase comes in.  I originally planned a quick read aloud about the last eclipse and then going outside to view the eclipse with the students. Unfortunately New York State Insurance had other plans and we will not be viewing the eclipse together. So here I am 3 days before revamping and hunting for a fun new resource for the event.

Why Goosechase?

GooseChase offers a fresh take on team building through an online scavenger hunt platform. Student can join these online challenges, complete missions, and earn points. Making the lesson engaging and adding friendly competition is always a win in one of my library lessons.

Pros: GooseChase extends scavenger hunts, allowing educators to create challenges for specific objectives and themes. The way it is set up engages students and is designed to increase student participation level in class. GooseChase enhances by including educational content into missions that students are excited to complete.

Cons: While GooseChase offers benefits, users will encounter limitations with the free version, which may not suffice for larger events or student populations, and there is only a yearly subscription available verses per challenge use. The site works on phones and iPads, I wish it also was compatible with the students desktop computers. Also the tasks are all in text formats so I won’t be using this with my younger students.

GooseChase looks like it will be a great way to supply students with scavenger hunts and excitement in and out of the library. For my classes on Monday I will not be using the App, only for fear that getting everyone up and running will take up the entire time I have for the lesson. I would usually experiment with new tools, but the Solar Eclipse is a one day event that won’t happen again during these student’s educational years (or mine). However, I plan on using this tool to set up a summer reading scavenger hunt program. I am hoping the interface is as easy as they say for the students. I will also ask IT to play around with adding it this week!  @goosechaseedu @LIS568
