Resource Review :
This weeks review is of iMovie

iMovie is designed for iOS and macOS Hollywood-style trailers and video according to Tech Tools provided by the American Association of Librarians (AASL).
Our book fair is just around the corner, and I thought it would be a great opportunity to use a tool I hadn’t yet – iMovie! I belong to a ton of librarian groups, and I had seen a Jurassic Park Theme trailer that I loved. The creator said she used iMovie and that it was a great resource for creating quick videos, so for this week’s resource review, I gave it a go!
Why iMovie?
iMovie can be a fantastic tool for elementary students to help get them excited about or to start creating. Some ways I hope to use iMovie in the library are to have students create author interviews where they format questions and then use footage of the answers to make a short movie. Another way is by creating book reviews that summarize the plot, discuss characters, and ultimately recommend books to fellow students. Or in a fun way where I create videos to promote library events. Events can include author visits, reading challenges, or similar to the first iMovie I have made, to promote book fairs.
Pros:
- iMovie is very user-friendly; if I can use it, anyone can!
- iMovie works on any Mac product, so you can edit right on your iPhone or iPad and not just on your desktop.
Cons:
- iMovie is only available on macOS computers and iOS; this is not an issue for my school because we only work on Mac, but my children loved seeing how I made the trailer and they are unable to use it because they operate on PCs in school.
- For beginners, I would only use pre-existing iMovie trailer templates and not the full version of iMovie, which can be overwhelming for first-time users of the software.

I am excited for the entire school and their families to watch the trailer; it took a few hours because this was my first go and I was watching tutorials and playing around with the limited features but will be creating these book fair trailers yearly. @theresourcefullibrarian #schoolmedia #LIS568 #iMovie
If you have used iMovie for anything fun I would love to hear about it or better yet see it!
